The first starter lasted six years. How long should a replacement last?A. Most replacement starters are not new, but rebuilt or remanufactured. How long the replacement lasts is really determined by what was replaced in the rebuilt starter and the quality of the replacement parts. I replaced the starter in my car about 16 months ago, and it recently failed. Fortunately, the starter came with a limited-lifetime warranty. I was happy it was under warranty and disappointed I had to replace it again.John Paul is AAA Northeast’s Car Doctor.
