Q. Lately, when I take my old car in for an oil change, I’m asked if I want a high mileage oil change or a regular oil change. There is about a $20 difference between the two. Is it worth the extra cost for the high mileage oil change?
A. I wasn’t persuaded that this was anything more than marketing. Then I spoke to some petroleum engineers, who told me that the high mileage oil has some additives that help preserve engine seals, reduce smoking, slow oil leaks, and remove sludge buildup. Is it worth the extra cost? Maybe.
