A massive car show returns once again to the Boston Common this weekend.

More than 100 rare, classic, and just plain cool cars will take over the public space on Sunday, Sept. 24, for the sixth annual Boston Cup, which showcases everything from steam cars to brass-era vehicles to all-new hybrid supercars. Organizers expect the impressive line-up to include a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB, a rare 1948 Tucker 48, and a Ferrari LaFerrari, which has a top speed in excess of 217 miles per hour.

“The Boston Cup has become a lifestyle show, and not by design,” said Rich Doucette, the event’s founder and organizer. “It just happens to have 100 rare cars.”

Thousands of people attended the Boston Cup in 2016, according to Doucette. The event’s location around the Parkman Bandstand makes it an accessible spot for passersby to view an incredible display. Doucette hopes to grow the Boston Cup into a premier auto show in the same vein as the Pebble Beach and Amelia Island Concours events, which are now destination weekends for elite car collectors and well-heeled enthusiasts alike.

“I’m hoping someone that’s not into cars, sees these cars, and takes an interest … and starts going to museums,” Doucette said. “For all we know, the future designers of the automobile industry could be walking through the Boston Common that morning.”

This year’s event will also include a tribute to John “J.” Geils, the late musician and avid car collector.
