2017 Presidents Day Auto Sales

Here are the 38 safest vehicles you can find in 2017

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s 2017 Top Safety Pick+ winners are vehicles that meet the highest standards in crash protection and prevention, braking technology, and headlight evaluations.

This year’s list, released in December, names 38 vehicles to the Top Safety Pick+ list and 44 to the Top Safety Pick list. In order to qualify for both lists, models must earn “good” ratings in five tests measuring crash protection and either an “advanced” or “superior” rating for front crash prevention. Vehicles also must earn a “good” or “acceptable” headlight rating for the Top Safety Pick+ honor.

“The field of contenders is smaller this year because so few vehicles have headlights that do their job well, but it’s not as small as we expected when we decided to raise the bar for the awards,” Adrian Lund, IIHS president, said in a statement. “Manufacturers are focusing on improving this basic safety equipment, and we’re confident that the winners’ list will grow as the year progresses.”
